You can imagine that after 14 years of photographing weddings, I see a lot of the same things over and over again so when I see something new and unique at a wedding, I get really excited. Blakelyn and Myles’ wedding was full of so many unique touches that I hadn’t come across before, starting with two words – BRIDAL CAPE.
Yep, you read that correctly – Blakelyn had a bridal cape and it was stunning! When she first contacted me earlier this year, I knew that it would be beautiful and unique wedding. Her initial email described black velvet bridesmaids dresses with beautiful jewel-toned florals and a tea table where guests could choose tea cups to take home as favors. Wait until you see the glassware table!
Blakelyn wanted a New Orleans courtyard wedding, so the brick courtyard at Grand Bayou Noir was the perfect location for their Sunday afternoon ceremony and reception. Blakelyn and Myles have been together since 8th grade and now, well over 10 years later, they were finally married! Myles proposed in front of a castle in Colorado after they had tea on the lawn, so the tea / coffee table was such a sweet, personal way to share this experience with their guests. The tea they served had also been purchased during that trip when they got engaged.
Their ceremony was held in the gardens at Grand Bayou Noir, under the gazebo. After the ceremony, guests were treated to some live music that even included a special song by Blakelyn’s dad – a song he sang to her when she was little! (I’ve included a short clip of this at the end) I also mentioned the glassware table before – guests were each able to choose a colorful glass to use during the reception. The beautiful rainbow of colored glass sparkled in the bright sunlight and was just too fun to photograph!
Even though I only met Blakelyn and Myles when I first arrived on their wedding day, they did such a great job incorporating personal touches into their wedding, that I feel like I’ve known them longer. This wedding was the perfect way to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Congratulations, you two!
