Recently I heard someone say that when people say “It’s good luck when it rains on your wedding day,” it is just something made up to make brides feel better. The saying actually comes from generations of superstition and tradition. One of the meanings I read said that it’s good luck because a wet knot is harder to untie than a dry one, so it symbolizes a strong, long-lasting marriage. Although this saying comes from Hindu tradition, I liked this one because it reminds me of a popular scripture used for weddings. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says: “And though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” The three strands of that cord are the bride, groom and Jesus. With the amount of rain Kelly and Corey had on their wedding day, that very wet, triple braided cord will be nearly unbreakable!
Kelly and Corey’s wedding was held at Dominique’s Wine Boutique and Bistro located in downtown Houma. Although it started pouring rain as soon as it was time to get Kelly to the venue, the rain stopped right as the ceremony was about to begin. Dominque’s has a unique set-up for weddings with an elevated area where the ceremony site is set-up, which later became the dance floor. Everything was beautiful, including all of the flowers and decor by Nick Hebert Designs. The food and cake, all done by Dominque’s, looked and smelled amazing. They always have some unique food items that you don’t often see at weddings.
Kelly made such a stunning bride – I loved her simple, elegant gown that seemed to suite her perfectly. You can see more photos of this gorgeous bride in the post about her Nottoway bridal session!
Some of my favorite moments of the day were with Corey’s daughter, Demi. She was such a big help with the little flower girls and ring bearer and had a blast on the dance floor with all of her cousins. She also had a special dance with her daddy, which was so sweet.
Kelly and Corey are obviously so loved by their family and friends. Everyone had a great time, the dance floor stayed packed and the party was even extended because they weren’t ready to call it a night! Despite the rain, the wedding turned out perfectly and I enjoyed every minute of working with these two!
