Nicobella Wedding in Morgan City – Karley and Luke

May 5, 2021

I really don’t know where to begin with this wedding!   I have enjoyed every step of this journey with Karley and Luke and have been looking forward to their Nicobella wedding in Morgan City for quite a while now!  Not only was it going to be my first time back at Nicobella since before the pandemic started, but photographing their wedding was just another special moment spent with this family that I have known for the last 6 years.

In 2015, I first met Karley’s brother, Brett, when I photographed his engagement with Ashlyn.  I then photographed Ashlyn’s bridals and their wedding later that year.  Karley was still in high school at this time and I photographed her senior portraits the following year!  So when I was contacted to photograph Karley and Luke’s wedding, I was thrilled to have a chance to work with them again!

Karley is a nurse and Luke is a police officer, so both of them serve their community in their selfless occupations.  They are both so kind and easygoing.  Karley has a smile that just lights up and you can’t help but smile too.  Her bridal portrait session at Nottoway was so much fun, especially since her mom and maid of honor were both there as well.   We shared a lot of laughs that day!  Okay, enough gushing about how awesome they are, let me get to the actual wedding day!

Karley and her girls got ready at Nineteen 06, a gorgeous bed and breakfast in Patterson.  I love shooting here – the natural light inside the building is gorgeous and the attached courtyard is so bright – perfect for portraits!  Luke and his guys got ready at a private home right on the bayou, which always makes the best backdrop for the guys’ portraits!

The ceremony was at Holy Cross Church in Morgan City.  This is one of the first churches I ever photographed when I still lived there and I used to photograph events for the attached private school.  So this church holds a special place in my heart.  I love how you can walk all the way around the altar and that the stained glass circles the whole building and is the backdrop for every photo!

Once they were married, Karley and Luke celebrated with their family and friends at Nicobella in Morgan City.  Can you believe this beautiful venue was once a warehouse where floats were stored??  The gorgeous decor was done by Jannine and Pernell of Elegant Events of the South – it is always a pleasure to work with them!   Jannine also helped coordinate the wedding.   All florals were done by Colleen Askew.  Everyone had a blast dancing to Foret Tradition – they are an awesome band!  And let me just talk about the groom’s cake for a second!   Everyone was amazed at how detailed it was!  Kimbla’s Cakes did an amazing job, as usual!   In addition to the cakes, there was a donut station and gorgeous personalized cookies!   The night was complete with a sparkler exit!
