Mallory’s Senior Session in Thibodaux and Houma

Mallory’s senior session was such a good one. She’s a senior at Central Lafourche and will be graduating in just about a month, which makes this season feel extra exciting. She and her mom were so fun to hang out with, and from the very beginning, everything about this session just came together so well.

Mallory had one main request for her senior pictures: somewhere pretty with a field of flowers. I get asked that a lot, and honestly, flower fields are a little tricky around here. The really dreamy wildflower fields are usually more of a Baton Rouge or New Orleans thing, and even then, they only bloom during a very short window in November and late May. Around here, the closest thing we usually get are the big pink azalea bushes in late winter and early spring or those yellow fields that pop up around February and early March… which, let’s be honest, are mostly just weeds doing their best.

So I was very excited when I spotted the pink blooming azaleas in front of Nicholls. They were the perfect pop of color, and we also made use of the pretty bayou area across the street. On my way to meet them, I happened to pass an overgrown field of yellow and white flowers and immediately knew I needed to come back to it. I was able to tuck Mallory right along the edge of it to give her some of that flower-field look, and it worked so well with her cowboy boots and cute hat.

Since I wasn’t totally sure what we’d find in bloom, I also brought along a wildflower bouquet just in case. It ended up being such a perfect touch. It looked so cute with her outfit choices and added even more of that soft, springtime feel she wanted.

We wrapped up her session over at our private land in Houma. There’s a beautiful grassy road where the evening light just pours in, and it always gives such a pretty glow. We also found a small patch of those yellow flowers, which tied everything together so well and gave us one more little flower-filled spot before the session ended.

Mallory was so easy to pose and photograph, and the whole evening felt laid-back and natural. Sessions like this are always such a reminder that sometimes you do not need a perfect flower field to get the look you want. A little creativity, good light, and a senior who trusts the process can go a long way.

Mallory, congratulations on your senior year and everything ahead. I loved photographing this season for you.
